BRIEF NOTE ON TEACHER EDUCATION

The issue of quality education is now very much on the world agenda, especially in the agenda of developing countries. There is a growing realization that, whatever we are practicing will define the Social and intellectual competencies and character of the new generation which have to take upon itself the responsibilities of shaping and running the Society of 21st century. Quality and Relevance have become the catch words of 21st Century education. In this context, teacher competency is considered as the single most crucial factor which determines the quality of education. Various national and international Commissions and Committees have accepted the centrality of the teachers in determining the quality of the teaching learning process. These considerations present new challenges to the professional preparation of teachers.

Rules, Regulations and Policies on Academic and administrative Governance

B.Ed:

Andhra Pradesh State Council for Higher Education is the regulatory body to monitor Teacher Education Programme in Andhra Pradesh. Every Year it has been conducting Entrance Test i.e., Ed CET and allot 75% of seats to each B.Ed college under Convener Quota and the remaining 25%  of seats are filled by the management by giving wide advertisement in reputed daily news papers inviting the applications. The admissions are made on the basis of merit only.50% of marks are required in concerned degree for the OC & BC  candidates and 45% of marks are required in concerned degree for SC,  ST and Physically Handicapped  Candidates. They have to pay Rs.16500/- towards fee (Rs 13500/- as tuition fee and Rs.3000/- as special fee).

The Govt. of AP sanctioned the total fee of  the EBC candidates whose parental income is less than Rs.1,00,000/- per annum, and to the BC, SC and ST candidates whose parental income is less than Rs.2,00,000/-. The B.Ed., course is consists of four semesters with 17  course papers along with practicum like activities, micro-teaching, teaching practice, internship  having total 2200 marks. As per the Norms of NCTE 2014).

 

D.Ed:

The Andhra Pradesh School Education Department is the Regulatory Body to monitor Diploma in Elementary Education Programme (D.El.Ed/D.Ed.,). The Andhra Pradesh Government conduct DEECET and allotted seats are 40 as convener quota and 10 seats are filled by management according to merit in intermediate stage. Eligibility for this is 50% of marks in intermediate and 40 marks in entrance for OC &  BC candidates and 45% of marks in intermediate and 35 marks in entrance for SC, ST and PHC candidates.

The course consists two years duration with year wise examinations. For 1st year both theory and practicum consists of 500 marks (350 + 150) for second year both theory and practicum consist of 350+150+500+500 marks (1500), for both two years having 2000 marks.

According to 2014 NCTE Regulations the entire syllabus is changed and consists 1st year External 360 marks + summative examinations 80 marks + field based project 210 marks + Assignments/Presentations 150 marks + Teaching Practice & Internship 400 marks, the first year D.Ed course consists  1200 marks, and the 2nd year D.Ed course consists of External 360 marks+ summative exam 90 marks + Field based projects 200 marks +Assignment and presentations 150 marks and Teaching Practice & Internship 400 marks total 1200 marks. The total D.Ed course having 2400 marks.
